After taking care of lobsters and crabs during a six months stay in Maine, the former chef Christiane Vogel decided to go back to school – choosing an unusual route to an academic career. After receiving her Bachelor's degree in American Studies with a minor in German as a Foreign Language at the University of Leipzig, she is now part of the American Studies MA program, making her one of the editors of this fourth issue of aspeers.

Her research interests are set at the intersection of cultural and medical phenomenon, covering medical issues in fictional writing but also in regard to gender studies. Future plans include the ambition to be part of an NGO or relief organization as well as spending valuable time abroad. In her free time she enjoys riding her motor cycle, skiing, reading, traveling and watching movie
