Being an Au Pair and hence being a part of an American host family in Virginia, I experienced the U.S. and its multifaceted places, histories, and peoples. This finally encouraged the decision to attend the American Studies BA program at the University of Leipzig. Graduating in 2011, I have been accepted to the MA program in the same year, which makes me part of the editorial team for the fifth issue of aspeers.

During my studies I spent one semester at the American University in Washington DC, where I studied “New Media and Journalism”, which not only included courses, but also an internship that I did at the German-American Heritage Museum of the USA. I am currently planning to extend my French language skills during one semester in Brest /France. Simultaneously, I would like to broaden my horizon on different perspectives toward the U.S.

Being especially interested in popular culture, I wrote my BA thesis about “And the Emmy Goes to … In-N-Out Burger: An American Fast Food Phenomenon.” Prospectively, I aim for a PhD, where I would like to continue elaborating in the field of American popular culture. I especially intend to focus on Hollywood as my future research topic.
